There are Disney rides—and then there’s Flight of Passage. Tucked inside the lush, bioluminescent world of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom, this mind-blowing attraction isn’t just a ride—the Flight of Passage ride is an experience that leaves jaws dropped and hearts pounding.

What Is It, Exactly?
The Flight of Passage ride is a 3D motion simulator that puts you on the back of a banshee, the winged creatures from James Cameron’s Avatar films. Through a deep-breathing, gear-activating connection with your own Avatar, you’ll launch into the skies of Pandora, soaring over ocean cliffs, ducking through floating mountains, and gliding through glowing forests in what feels like the most epic hang-gliding journey of your life.

The ride is often compared to Epcot’s Soarin’, but cranked up way higher. You straddle a sleek motorcycle-like seat, don 3D goggles, and hold on tight. And yes—the banshee even breathes beneath you. As with all things Disney, the attention to detail is next-level.

Lines and Lightning Lanes
Flight of Passage is one of the most popular rides in all of Walt Disney World, and the line proves it. Even years after its debut, the standby wait can top 120 minutes on busy days. Thankfully, as of the time of this writing it’s part of the Individual Lightning Lane system (sold à la carte), which may be worth the cost if you want to skip the epic line and spend more time exploring the Valley of Mo’ara.

If you do wait standby, the queue itself is stunning—winding through ancient caves, glowing labs, and the famous floating Avatar in a tank. It’s one of the best themed lines in the parks, and, dare we say it, worth the wait. If you get early entry, or are willing to wait until close to park close, the line should be shorter, and you might want to consider the queue. And if you go at night you get the added bonus of being in Pandora for the awesome lights.

Is It for Everyone?
Not quite. There’s a 44” height requirement, and those prone to motion sickness might want to skip this one (queasy parents can often be found stumbling their way through the exit). But if you can handle a thrilling flight and want a moment of true Disney magic-meets-tech wizardry, Flight of Passage is a can’t-miss.

Quick Tip:
As mentioned above, rope drop is a great option here. Arrive early and head straight to Pandora at park open—you’ll beat the lines and get to see the valley glowing in the morning mist. It’s really breathtaking, and unlike anything you’ll see anywhere else in the parks.

Final Thoughts
Flight of Passage isn’t just a ride—it’s a full-body adventure. It’s emotional, cinematic, and wildly immersive. Even if you’ve never seen Avatar, this journey connects with something primal: the thrill of flight, the wonder of nature, and the magic of imagination. It’s no wonder people ride it again and again.
